It's HUGE - need a strong arm :)

My mom has some trouble lifting this when it's full... sometimes even when it's NOT full, just because the handle is kind of thick. Shouldn't be a problem for most, but if the user is petite, has small hands, or has less arm strength than most, get a smaller pitcher.
And... After you fill it, you can't pour any water out until it's done filtering. As far as I know, that's the same with any of the ones with a flip top. I personally like the ones that close all the way... I don't have the patience to wait and when you forget and pour, water in the top comes out and sometimes the whole top comes off and you have a flood in your kitchen.
I still gave it a "3" because it does hold a lot of filtered water and, after all, it's a Brita... still filters just fine.
:)

I prefer my water I drink to be filtered. I make my coffee, tea and orange juice with this filtered water. I think it makes it taste better than regular water from the tap. I use it when boiling water for pasta and there is NO residue in the pan afterwards. My Dad was so impressed with the Brita water system that when he gets home he is going to buy one.

I purchased this pitcher assuming that the pitcher would be a good one considering it is a Brita. I got it home and did all the steps necessary. I then proceeded to fill it up with water and I poured the first one out according to the directions and the whole top fell off and was not securely fastened. The water spilled everywhere and I was not happy.

I have bought several of these pitchers and I have one in my home. I simply love the taste of the water and I live in Chicago, so the water isn't that bad. We have Lake Michigan water and most people just drink tap water here in the city and don't really bother buying water or filtering it, but I enjoy both. Once you have experienced Brita water, tap water doesn't quite get it. Yes, if you fill it up all the way it is heavy. After all, this is a three quart pitcher, but I can handle it just fine. There are a few carbon particles in the top, where the filter is, but they don't get in the water, so that is not a problem. I love my Brita!

It Works!

I live in an area of New York State with mineral-rich water, including the terrible taste of sulphur. Yuck! The Brita filter works. It takes out all the nasty flavor. I now drink water that has no taste to it, and the coffee again is the taste of straight coffee with no undercurrents of anything else.

This is a great waterfilter. The only reason that I did not give this pitcher 5 stars is because of the weight. It becomes very heavy when filled with water, but other than that, I have only good things to say about this pitcher!

I have one of these pitchers at my home and we also have one at the office. The one at the office is a godsend--otherwise our tap water would be undrinkable in my opinion! It does a great job of making the water taste good however it seems there are always particles from the charcoal filter getting loose into the filter chamber even though I soak the new filters as directed. Of course, most of the particles do not make it down into the filtered water so it is mostly an aesthetic issue. I don't seem to have this problem with the pitcher at my home, however. As other reviewers have indicated, you do need to wait for the water to filter through before pouring, and you should also be certain the lid is secure before pouring as well.

Misleading product

My wife purchased this pitcher thinking it would do the trick. It doesn't on 2 counts.
1)The water flows underneath the filter. Noticing this, I pulled the filter out and put it back in. I pushed as hard as I could and it still would not seal the hole that the filter sits in. The only way the water is filtered is if the water is poured directly on the filter. Even then you're missing 98% of the water because it flows to the bottom.
2)The filter meter is completely misleading. If you take the top of the pitcher off you'll notice that there is nothing connecting the filter to meter. So what exactly is this meter measuring? Is it measuring the battery power encased inside and underneath the cover?
I just asked my wife to return this item. If filtered water is your desire, I recomend a sink attachement filter system. These are guarenteed to filter your water and not mislead you.

I had mixed feelings when I read the reviews, but we needed something so the pitcher was it. It's daunting to do the pre-use directions but once we finally got to drink the water it has been very convenient. The capacity would be better if it held more but if you have limited space this is ideal.
I haven't had any problems of the charcoal filter leaving residue in the main compartment or other, but if it's not seated correctly you can see it in the filter compartment until it is corrected.
Overall I love it better than the faucet kind and using the pitcher means ice cold water all the time. I use it in our coffee maker and it has improved the taste. I am happy with my purchase.

After researching which system to purchase and where to buy, I decided Target had the best deal. I printed off a [..] coupon from brita.com and used it. Target gave me a [..] gift card for purchasing this item as well. What a deal. I followed the instructions and poured out the first 2 pitchers of water, but the 3rd was great! I fill the pitcher with a jug, because of the pitcher's size, and fill it only half way so pouring is not a problem. I am totally pleased, wished I had bought it sooner. Great product.
